Description
Financial assistance is available to voluntary groups and community organisations for projects that aim to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable adults.
Extended Description
The Somerset Giving Fund is provided and administered by the Somerset Community Foundation. Funding is intended to assist voluntary or community groups that work for the benefit of people most in need in Somerset County. With this fund, the Foundation is able to support vulnerable adults of all ages and a wide range of needs.
There are two broad themes to this programme. Applications for funding should address one of these:
- Tackling disadvantage – projects that help disadvantaged people gain access to services, information or community activities.
- Supporting community care – projects that support people involved in caring or those needing care, either in the home or in the community.

Applications are due by:
- 11 May 2010.
- 22 June 2010.
Key Criteria
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a voluntary organisation or community group.
- Be well-managed, financially competent and able to deliver their project effectively.
- Have a project taking place in the county of Somerset.
Preference will be given to small sized, voluntary-led groups with an income of less than £30,000 per year.
Restrictions
Funding cannot be used for:
- Individuals.
- Statutory organisations.
- Projects taking place outside Somerset.
- General appeals.
- Projects that start before a grant has been awarded.
- Large voluntary or community organisations.
Further Information
Somerset Community Foundation is a charitable trust that raises funds from Somerset donors, both individual and corporate, and distributes this funding to a wide range of charitable projects across the county. Local donations are pooled into a general grant-making fund called "The Somerset Giving Fund".
Application Procedure
Since the priority for funding changes each year, applicants must speak with a member of the Grants Team to discuss the priority theme and the suitability of their project before submitting an application form.

The following information should be submitted along with the completed application form:
- A copy of the group's constitution.
- Annual accounts.
- Health and safety policy (depending on the proposed project).
