The Developing People and Organisations Programme
The Alcohol Education and Research Council aims to fund projects that increase the capacity of organisations to deal with alcohol-related problems and to develop the evidence base. Financial assistance is available for projects which seek to increase awareness of alcohol-related issues and reduce alcohol related harm in society.
Grants between £5,000 and £50,000 are available.
The deadline for applications is Saturday 5 September 2009.
The Developing People and Organisations programme will support projects that meet the following aims:
- To improve practice by developing knowledge, skills and motivation. For example, to improve the work of both generic and specialist alcohol workers.
- Influencing change by translating evidence into policy and practice.
- Promoting organisational development by working with other organisations to facilitate cultural change.
- To obtain evidence of what works so that others can replicate.
Organisations applying for the Developing People and Organisations grant must meet the following criteria:
- The Alcohol Education and Research Fund can only be used to pay for project activities that are outside the responsibilities of central or local agencies and services.
- The present policy is to give grants for specific projects rather than for the on-going support of established voluntary organisations.
- The Council must be satisfied that the proposed project meets an accepted and urgent need and will not duplicate existing provision.
- Applicants must demonstrate clear and persuasive reasons for carrying out a particular piece of work.
Particular priority will be given to applications relating to the following areas:
- Investigating the link between drinking, health and crime.
- Look into the role marketing activities have played in changing people's drinking patterns, especially binge drinking.
- Explore the social impact of drinking within the home and other non-public venues.
- Investigate methods to reduce harmful drinking in universities and other educational establishments.
