Britannia Building Society Foundation Grants
Financial assistance is available for charities and schools to carry out educational projects.
The Foundation provides an annual £500,000 funding pot. The minimum grant award available is £1,000 and the maximum award is £25,000.
Description:
The Britannia Building Society Foundation offers grants for charities and schools to carry out educational projects, with a focus on promoting numeracy and financial literacy.
Key Criteria:
The programme is open to applications from registered charities (both local and national branches) and schools that are looking to carry out educational projects.
Funds will be targeted at local communities where there is a high density of Britannia Building Society employees, members and customers. There are many Britannia Building Society branches in the South West, including:
- Barnstaple, Bath, Bideford, Bridport, Bude, Chippenham, Exeter, Honiton
- Nailsea, Newton Abbot, Plymouth, Shepton Mallet, Street
- Taunton, Tavisock, Torquay, Wellington, Wells, Weston-Super-Mare, Yeovil

Eligible Expenditure:
The Foundation prefers to cover the costs of purchasing specific pieces of equipment, but in certain circumstances will consider capital expenditure and salary costs.
Restrictions:
The programme cannot support:
- Groups that have previously received support within the past two years.
- Activities that are usually funded through central or local government.
- Private companies.
- Hospitals, medical centres, medical treatment, medical research.
- General fundraising appeals.
- Political activity.
- Animal welfare.
- Promotion of religion.
- Appeals for places of worship.
- Sponsorship of marketing appeals.
- Bursaries to support an individual's further education.
- Holidays.
- Minibuses and other vehicles.
- Sport, music, drama, or arts-related projects which do not have a learning objective linked to the Foundation's key priorities.
- Whiteboards.
- Desk-top computers.
- Building maintenance or refurbishment.
- Conferences or seminars (unless there is a direct link to the Foundation's key priorities).
- Museums, galleries and music festivals.
- Running costs.
- Individual tuition or course fees.
Application Procedure:
Interested organisations are asked to email the Britannia Building Society Foundation for an application form, attaching a copy of the most recent independently audited annual report and accounts.
